Indigenous Communities of Sylhet
ECDO was established by some dedicated individuals from different ethnic communities in Sylhet region, and is the only organization working solely for ethnic communities in Sylhet region.
Indigenous people of Bangladesh are descendants of the original inhabitants of their land and areas and strikingly diverse in their culture, religion and patterns of social and economic organization. They have enriched the cultural heritage of Bangladesh by their exotic traditions, literatures, languages, arts, and crafts. They identify themselves as a indigenous people’s in the global landscape and refer the term adivasi in Bangla.
As all of ECDO’s staff are indigenous persons themselves, ECDO enjoys a bond and understanding with it’s target beneficiaries that most development organisations do not, and can not have. ECDO not only has a professional understanding of the troubles and issues faced by indigenous people, but also has a personal understanding, and this is a key aspect of ECDO’s effectiveness as an organisation
